Anguilla Airport
Getting to Paradise

Anguilla. As the quintessential tropical beach paradise, Anguilla is ringed by 33 stunning white sand beaches, uninhabited offshore cays and extensive coral reefs (photo: Anguilla Experience).

Beaches

From snorkeling to glass bottomed boats, Anguilla has it all, on-the-water and onshore,  from spas to art gallery tours as well as over 70 dining choices, from gourmet resort restaurants to beachside bistros.

Airport. Anguilla is served by Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA), formerly known as Wallblake Airport, renovated in 2005 to handle American Eagle's upgrade to regional jets. The airport's 5463' runway length is not long enough to receive the major intercontinental jets.

Connections. There are no direct flights to the US or Europe. Most flights connect via St. Maarten (SXM) or San Juan (SJU) in Puerta Rico. Other flights connect via St. Thomas, Antigua or St. Kitts.

Local Carriers. Within the Caribbean, travel is usually on turboprops and smaller planes. Local carriers, such as American Eagle, LIAT, Cape Air, WINAIR, TransAnguilla, St. Barth Commuter, Caribbean Star and Island Charters, offer scheduled flights and charters. Passengers with carry-on luggage only (or checked through luggage) may avoid immigration at St. Maarten airport. Luggage may be flown later if aircraft weight limits are reached by the passenger load, so carry on an Overnight Bag.

Taxis and Rental Cars. Taxis are plentiful and meet incoming flights. Rental cars, the most economical way to get around, are available at the airport.

Multi-National Archipelago. The nearby islands of St. Maarten/St. Martin, Saba St. Eustatius (Statia) and St. Barths are well worth a day trip or side excursion. Sharing St. Maarten/St. Martin's dual Dutch/French, multi-national personality, St. Barths is French and Saba and Statia are Dutch, while Anguilla is British. See Our Most Delightful Day Trip from Anguilla.

Ferry Service. Ferry service on the half hour connects Marigot on St. Martin (last at 7 PM) to Anguilla's Blowing Point (last at 6:15 PM). No reservations are required and the fare is $15 each way.

Accommodations. Anguilla has a variety of accommodations, including upscale resorts, moderate hotels and small inns and guesthouses (see info and rates)

Frangipani Resort

Highly recommended is Frangipani Resort (see rates-Expedia Affiliate Network low price guarantee).

.Diving. Anguilla has seven marine sanctuaries and offers numerous reef dive sites, wall and wreck dives (including a Spanish galleon) as well as night and shore dives.

Delays and Overnight Bag. Luggage and flights may be delayed so carry on an overnight bag with a day's necessities, including medicines, clothing and a bathing suit as well as reading material and snacks if desired.
